Wiikwemkoong Art Gallery

The Wiikwemkoong Art Gallery opened on July 18th, 2014. It has been established to showcase new and emerging artists alongside established artists who are Wikwemikong Band Members. The Gallery has implemented a Certificate of Authenticity and Seal to recognize and authenticate the work of the Artisans whose work is being recognize through the Gallery. The main objective is to encourage the establishment of a self-sustaining arts economy where artists can sell their work not only during the tourist season, but all year round.

Debajehmujig Theatre Group

Debajehmujig Theatre Group is a non-profit community based professional theatre with its home base on the Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve on Manitoulin Island. It is the only Professional theatre company in Canada operating on a reserve today.

Debajehmujig recently opened a 14000 square foot training and production facility to house its year round operations making it the only Native theatre company in the
country to own and operate their own facility.

The company offers professional theatre productions year round with their main stage season being in the summer months of July and August. You can catch a performance in the evenings at the beautiful outdoor venue of Holy Cross Mission Ruins in Wikwemikong, or in the afternoon at the new facility located at 43 Queen street in Manitowaning.

In addition to the professional main stage activities the company also creates custom performances to meet the specific needs of communities, organizations, conferences
or gatherings etc…

Debajehmujig also offers a three year training program (National Aboriginal Arts Animator Program) for emerging Aboriginal artists to further develop their skills. Having been established in 1984 Debajehmujig is one of the longest running Aboriginal theatre companies in Canada and performs, locally, nationally, and internationally.

zaawmiknaangcraftZaawmiknaang (translated "place of the brown beaver”) is more than just a cozy little craft store, it offers the opportunity to learn, relax, and sample traditional Native culinary delights. The outdoor eatery offers traditional meals in addition to the standard Canadian chip wagon fare.

Tee Pee and Cabin for overnight accommodations for the more adventurous tourists are available. These traditional abodes do not come with artificial indoor plumbing or air conditioning, but rely on natural methods of circulating air throughout the structure to ensure a comfortable stay.
